On the blog this week we found out why indie video games are a big deal right now, we introduced our video on interaction designer James Patten, and in LAYERS Daedelus broke down his collaboration with the late Austin Peralta. We also heard why the VFX industry in Hollywood is taking a stand, had a quick look at Andrew Wyatt’s upcoming album, found out how you can grow a human body from crystals, discovered mysterious shadows in Queens Plaza clock tower, looked at where new media meets Op Art, and delved into Simogo’s Eerie Year Walk in Gamer’s Paradise.

And the rest of the web had this to say:

· Watch a trailer for Chan-wook Park’s new movie Stoker created entirely with GIFs.

· Would you sit on a chair that self-destructs after eight uses?

· The latest worrying developments from DARPA’s robotic BigDog, show it throwing a cinder block with terrifying ease.

· Rats thousands of miles apart communicated with each brain-to-brain via the internet.

· And here’s a data visualization of one week of Twitter conversations at Twitter HQ (above). [via]
